Don’t even mention the voice acting!Īlthough we haven’t mentioned them yet, it is probably multiplayer mods that have the greatest impact on the rest of the gaming world. With the Half-Life engine at your disposal, what better to do than turn it into a cheesy zombie movie? Despite the massive over-saturation of zombies in gaming these days, Darkstar developer Neil Manke’s They Hunger still managed to stand out from the shambling horde by creating an atmosphere with the perfect balance between humor and horror. But some go further still, altering almost every aspect of the original game to become a “total conversion”.
Many of these maps and mods were able to go beyond what Valve provided through the use of custom made textures, sounds and models that could complement the experience. Umbrellas are the weapon of choice for a zombie apocalypse (They Hunger) The mod was also notable for introducing female characters to the Half-Life universe for the first time! Azure Sheep was one mod to do this, with the player taking the role of a security guard. Many mappers chose to create continuations of the story, or a retelling of events from a different perspective, long before Half-Life 2 or the expansion packs. Within months of the game’s release, fans began taking the existing Half-Life assets and gameplay and using it to expand on the experience Valve created in new levels. The first, and still most common mods, are what might be called “map-packs”. Over the past decade and a half, there have been hundreds if not thousands of mods and maps created, many of them excellent.

So, now I am wondering if the game might not have some sort of catch in it if a fight takes a while? Or maybe again my character got a critical hit against it that did more damage than its max HP.We would like to take this opportunity to have a look back through the vast, Indiana Jones-esque archive of creations to pick out just a few of our own personal favourites, from fun little map-packs to the mods that have changed gaming. Similar to above, I was fighting an enemy, the Ursan King, and suddenly same thing happened, game over, was doing fine, no damage, my character didn't fall as if it had died. Thinking about it, the only thing I could think about is that the enemy got a critical hit, and it pushed that hit over my max health.ģ. I couldn't figure out what happened, because I didn't die, didn't get pushed into any traps, and wasn't taking any damage. I was fighting an ancient guardian I believe it was (a couple of them) and dealing damage, slowly whittling down its health, and suddenly Igot a game over screen. (this is the way that I died multiple times, I was trying to get past that darn trap, never did)Ģ. I am assuming that the trainer simply does something like constantly heal, or similar, but if the player takes more damage than their max health, it will kill them. I found a trap that consistently did more damage than my max health. However, and I do no know whether this is an issue with the game or with the trainer, using the infinite health cheat I have died 3 times (more, but the rest of them were in the same way as one of the earlier ways and I am pretty sure I Know what did it.)ġ.
First, I have GoG version and downloaded the B trainer, and both cheats work for the game.
